Health and Physical Education Learning Area at Ocean Reef Senior High School

Aim

Physical Education and sport play an important part in the development of all Ocean Reef Senior High School students. Many life skills such as team work, cooperation with others and the ability to strive for success against difficulties are valuable lessons that students learn from an involvement in sport. The school encourages students to strive for excellence and to set high goals and standards for themselves while at the same time acknowledging the efforts of those around them. Above all, we encourage participation to the best of each person's ability, regardless of the level at which they perform.

Ocean Reef Senior High School prides itself on the conduct and sportsmanship of its students on the sporting field, and we have high expectations that our standards are maintained at all times. This includes dress and behaviour standards, accepting decisions of umpires and accepting victory or defeat graciously.

Year 12 Outdoor Education Classes

The Year 12 Outdoor Ed classes participated in a Kayaking and Bushwalking Camp in Term 3 as part of their course. After a 5 week kayaking session on flat water with Canoeing WA both classes took on the white water at Bell’s Rapids on the Avon River for a day before moving up to Posselt’s Ford for a night camp. The next day canoeing WA took us from Posselt’s through to Emu Fall’s where we camped at Ces Barrow’s Campsite. On the last day we walked about 7km with our backpacks through the Avon Valley National Park. Many students found it challenging and enjoyable. Some had mp3 and energy drink withdrawal symptoms by the last day. Hopefully everyone was more appreciative of the luxuries we had left behind for three days.
