Arts - Music

Since opening in 1983 Ocean Reef High School and has been proud to present and develop a rich and varied Arts program for its students.

Music program

The Music Programs at Ocean Reef Senior High School provide the opportunity to be part of a student group with similar interests and talents. Students learn to co-operate and work together while still being able to develop their own skills and potential. Students belong to large and small ensembles and bands. They receive classroom music education, instrumental lessons, and perform publicly both within the school and in the community.

Specialist Programs

Special Music Program

The Special Music Program is a three year course designed for students who wish to specialise in music in the Contemporary Genre and covers the pre-requisites for the current Year 11 and 12 TEE Music Course, Music in Society course, and the VET course Music Industry Certificate II.

Students who gain a place in the Special Music course will be involved in class music for two periods per week, a small group instrumental lesson, and at least one ensemble rehearsal each week. Lesson times vary according to instrument and class size and occur on a rotating basis during school time. Students will also be involved in a number of public performances and concerts each year. These are compulsory for all students

Students who are learning Instruments at their primary school, or privately, are considered to be on-going students. Traditionally, instruments offered for on-going students include woodwind, brass, percussion and classical guitar.
