Year 8 Science students must complete and be assessed in the following topics; Investigating Science, Earth and Beyond, Natural and Processed Materials and Life and Living.

Except for the SEAC group, classes are not streamed. All students study similar topics and have common assessment tasks for formal reporting.

It is important that students achieve to the best of their ability as in Year 9 2008, classes will be streamed. The main advantage of streaming is that students having difficulty can be given special tuition in smaller groups. Thus teaching can be matched to student development.

Year 9 Science students must complete and be assessed in the following topics; Investigating Science, Energy and Change, Natural and Processed Materials and Life and Living.

Although some classes will be streamed in 2008, each student will study similar topics and have the same assessment tasks. Thus each student has an equal opportunity to succeed to his or her maximum ability.

It is very important that students try hard and do their best as their achievements this year will be used to determine their pathway of science in Year 10. Students who achieve well in Year 9 Science will study in the Advanced pathway in Year 10 which prepares them for TEE subjects like Chemistry, Biology, Human Biology and Physics in Year 11. The other students will be placed into Year 10 General Stream which may limit their science choices in Year 11.

Year 10 Advanced Science students will complete the following topics; Investigating Science, Chemistry, Physics and Biology.

These courses prepare students for the more difficult science subjects they may choose in Year 11 and which eventually leads to courses in TEE and onto University.

Year 10 General Science students will complete the following topics; Investigating Science, Natural and Processed Materials, Life and Living, Earth and Beyond (Astronomy) and Energy and Change.

This is a general science course, very hands-on and caters for students choosing easier Year 11 Science subjects (1A and 1B) or choosing not to continue with science in Year 11.
