Mobile Telephone Order

Pursuant to Regulation 70 of the School Education Regulations 2000, the following order is made with regard to students and mobile telephones.  This followed an instruction issued by the Director General of Education and Training.

All students are to comply with this order.  Students need to be aware that Regulation 70 does allow for a penalty of a $500.00 fine should they be prosecuted and found guilty by a court for having a mobile telephone turned on in class or if it is used for any purpose in class.

A condition of students bringing a mobile telephone to Ocean Reef SHS is that the mobile telephone must be switched off and not used while on the school property.

The following guidance is also issued to students and parents on mobile telephones:

  • If brought to school, the telephone must be secured.  The school is not liable if the telephone is lost or stolen.
  • Mobile telephones should not be used at any time the student is on school property, before or after school, during class or recess breaks.
  • Mobile telephones are not to be used for the purposes of bullying other students or disrupting school operations.
  • Photographs may not be taken from mobile telephones.
  • If a student uses a mobile telephone at any time while on school property, it will be confiscated by a teacher.
  • If a teacher sees or hears a mobile telephone it will be confiscated and handed to the relevant Deputy Principal.  The phone must be collected by a parent or carer.
  • If students do not follow lawful instructions issued by a teacher with regard to a mobile telephone they will be dealt with in accordance with the school’s BMiS procedures.
