Our School

Our Vision

At Ocean Reef SHS every student is on a pathway to success; empowered to reach their full potential as a lifelong learner and valued contributor to society.

Our Values

At Ocean Reef SHS our core values are aligned with the Department of Education WA values:

  • Respect – We embrace diversity and value each other’s unique contribution towards making our school a place where everyone’s success is celebrated.
  • Care – We treat ourselves, each other and the environment with kindness and consideration. Our relationships are based on trust, mutual respect and the acceptance of responsibility.
  • Achievement – We have high expectations of students and ourselves. We nurture, support and encourage each other along our pathway to success.

Situated 26 kilometres from the CBD, in Perth’s northern coastal corridor, Ocean Reef Senior High School has served generations of students and their families in the local community. Opening in February of 1983, with 14 teachers and three ancillary staff, what is now the Humanities and Social Sciences block housed the whole school population of Year 8 and 9 students. The school has since grown to a population of over 1300 students and has developed an esteemed reputation within the community as a school of choice for both students and staff.

In 2019, we opened our $5 million purpose built Performing Arts Centre. The centre has allowed the school to expand its Specialist Contemporary Music Program and gives our students more opportunities to learn skills required for post-secondary school employment in the performing arts industry. The school’s state-of-the- art sports facility due to be completed by late 2022 will further enhance the delivery of the Health and Physical Education curriculum.

Whilst the addition of new buildings has altered the shape of the school from above, the original school footprint was planned to reflect the shape of a ship, sailing forth towards the horizon. The school embraces its coastal surroundings offering a Specialist Marine Program which takes full advantage of our close proximity to the local beaches.

Reflecting the important links between our school and the surrounding land, waters, and culture, the school’s connection to Aboriginal histories, languages and culture is foregrounded and promoted through our decision-making processes and in the creation of a unique Acknowledgement of Country. The forthcoming Ocean Reef SHS Reconciliation Action Plan will guide us along our continued journey as a culturally responsive school; consciously embracing the important contributions made to the school’s past, present and future by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
