The Principal
As an Independent Public School in 2011, Ocean Reef SHS has a proud academic history, which has been built around strong positive leadership and excellence in teaching and pastoral care. Our reputation is enhanced by a wide range of activities conducted by the School. This combination has seen the school win numerous national and state awards, including an Australian Careers Service National Innovation in School Careers Programs Award and Young Achievement Australia. In 2010 the School won a ‘Top Public Schools’ Award from the Minister for Education and Training for the third time. |

Over ninety highly qualified, experienced and loyal staff at the school are committed to the development of young people. Because the school believes that all individuals are capable of making valuable contributions to the school and society, we have a firmly established ethos of developing the whole person – intellectually, emotionally, physically, culturally and spiritually. Students and teachers work as partners, collaborating to create a vibrant educational community. |

SEAC
SEAC (Secondary Extension and Challenge) is the academic extension program operating at Ocean Reef Senior High School, where students of similar ability learn together in a stimulating and challenging environment. In 2011 there were five classes of SEAC students two in year 8, one in year 9 and two in year 10. In year 8 and 9 students stay together for all four MESS subjects (Maths, English, Science and Society and Environment) while in Year 10 students are selected for each subject individually. |
There are Principals List awards presented to the top 5 students in each of the MESS subjects for years 8, 9 and 10. The awards are presented by the principal Greg Thorne each Semester along with Excellence awards for the top students in each subject and a Dux award for the best overall student. Places are offered in year 6 and 7 as a result of SEAC testing but to retain your place in the program when students enter the school, grades need to be maintained to a high standard. This testing usually takes place twice during the year – early in term 2 (main testing date) and during term 4. You can apply for our SEAC program even if you have not been involved with PEAC in primary school and you can apply for SEAC along with our other specialist programs of Music, Marine Studies and Soccer. Please contact Enrolments Officer Diana Martin on 9307 0222 for enrolment enquires, testing dates and any further details. |
