Balance
Our uniquely flexible program is available to students in Year 7 and operates in two pathways – a Maths and Science pathway and an English and Humanities & Social Sciences pathway. Students may access one or both pathways. Depending on their academic needs and continued progress within a pathway, students have the opportunity to continue into Years 8 and 9. This aspect of the program differentiates it from the Department of Education and Training’s affiliated GATE program.
Selection
Selection into the Ocean Reef Academic Extension Program is based on a range of student results including:
- Year 5 Semester 2 Report
- Year 5 NAPLAN Results
- ACER Testing, sat at ORSHS

Applications for the Academic Extension Program for Year 7 2026 are currently closed. Round 2 applications will be advertised when open.
Students residing inside our local intake area, or with an approved enrolment, are eligible to apply to apply to this program.
