Teachers skilfully deliver evidence-based instruction, which aligns the challenge, complexity, depth and pace of learning with students’ learning needs and optimises their personal growth
and achievement.
Balance
Our uniquely flexible program is available to students in Year 7 and operates in two pathways – a Maths and Science pathway and an English and Humanities & Social Sciences pathway. Students may access one or both pathways. Depending on their academic needs and continued progress within a pathway, students have the opportunity to continue into Years 8 and 9. This aspect of the program differentiates it from the Department of Education and Training’s affiliated GATE program.
Selection
Selection into the Ocean Reef Academic Extension Program is based on a range of student results including:
- Year 6 Semester 1 Report
- Year 5 NAPLAN Results
- ACER Testing, sat at ORSHS

Students residing in our local intake area are eligible to apply.
Applications for Year 7 2027 have now closed.
Applications for Year 7 2028 are expected to open in mid-March 2027.
